This is my 2020 Diet – Week 1 check-in. It’s a new year and I hope to start it out putting the right foot forward. Then, I’d like to follow that with putting the left foot forward. Then, I’d like to repeat those two steps ad infinitum until it becomes a long walk, or perhaps a run. That’s a good day’s exercise. And hopefully, that’ll be just one of many good days of exercise to come throughout the year. If done correctly and combined with a responsible intake of calories more often than not, I might just be able to start seeing some progress in my intended weight loss.

2019 was not a good year for my diet. I had good weeks, but I had far more bad weeks. Hell, I had bad months. It was not good. I documented my attempted progress here on this site, but as 2019 wound down, I decided to give up. I thought I’d enjoy the holidays by consuming whatever the hell I wanted to, take a deep breath, and then start again with a fresh outlook in 2020.

So here we are. It’s 2020. Now what?

Well, I guess it’s time to start documenting again. I admit that I was close to deleting all my prior blog posts on the topic of “diet check-in.” I wanted to cover up the evidence of my failure. But then, I decided that it’s better to have public record of that so-called failure. If for no other reason, it should serve as a reminder to try harder. In the end, I thought it better to keep those old posts there. If you’re interested in watching that downward spiral, here’s where that started.

The Official Weigh-in

Great! With preliminaries out of the way, let’s get down to it. My intent is to once again check in weekly. Fridays make sense as a good weekly day to show progress. If I stick to the plan, I’ll have been good through the workweek. I guarantee I’ll lose ground on any given weekend, but I hope to buckle down again come Monday.

Week 1: 266.4 lbs.

…and we’re off

My first weigh-in of 2020 is 266.4. It’s a couple pounds up from where I left off in mid-December. It could be worse. In fact, two days ago, on New Year’s Day, I came in at 270.4. That’s six pounds heavier than today’s official weekly weigh-in. So…I lost six pounds in two days. I’m off to a good start, right?

I wish it was that easy. I’m sure I was just retaining water. Anyway, that’s my official starting point. I’m going to try to avoid working toward an end goal this year. Instead, I want to work on smaller monthly goals. My intent is to show a net loss at the end of every month, even if it’s a half a pound.
